As a young child I was fascinated with the human body and how it worked. This spurred my desire to be a healer, first as a critical care nurse, then as an oncologic surgeon. Throughout my over 4 decades in healthcare, I have seen the birth of life, the loss of life, acts of man’s inhumanity to man as well as acts of incredible kindness and love.
My training as a western physician taught me to learn signs and symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments of disease. As a surgeon, I became skilled in the art of surgical removal of disease to “fix a problem”. But throughout my journey as a healer, I came to realize that treating a patient is not the same as healing a person. Western medicine is effective for the treatment of “acute’ care, however, falls short in managing chronic illnesses. The focus of healthcare must change to affect identifying the underlying causation of disease and prevention. Then, and only then, will we be effective in resolving it.
Causes of illness is very complex, multi-factorial and complicated to uncover with today’s health system. It requires time to understand the various aspects of who people are: how they think, live their lives, understand their nutritional habits, their stresses, what support systems are available to them, how they view themselves, what their environment is like, and what their belief systems are. Knowing what is going on in someone’s life is critical to understand what may be going on in their bodies. This holds key elements of information that when evaluated, can open the door to a better understanding of the causation of their ill health
In my life’s path of being in service to others, I strive to educate, inspire, motivation, empower and support others to take charge of their health. People then are better able to live a happier and healthier health span, live life longer, stronger and with more vitality.
On a personal note, I love to learn and challenge myself both personally and professionally. I love to connect with Nature and spend quality time with family.
